AUTHOR’S NOTES:

This month we will be dealing with some interesting energy. Mercury will retrograde in the sign of Libra where it will remain for a rather long time. Issues of relationships and some legal matter involving the lower courts, laws, contracts and financial matters will be prominent. This will involve individual connections and collective beliefs, and it will be a raucous and powerful moment in our history that may very well shift the balance of power in this country once again.

We will see Venus travel through Mars ruled Scorpio, while Mars is in Venus rules Libra. This is called a “mutual receptivity” and will allow us the chance to combine the energy of the male and female planets offering us an opportunity for a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities between us. With the ongoing battle regarding women’s rights in Texas and other states being dictated exclusively by men this is an interesting and karmic time for this astrological configuration. So many things are coming to the surface as America approaches its Pluto Return, and one of the things that Pluto rules is sexuality.

We are going to see a serious cultural, financial and political war as the backlash to Texas’ draconian laws regarding abortion and women’s sexual health in general will demand that each one of us arise and state where we stand on these issues. While I don’t like to use this platform too often for political or partisan issues, some situations simply demand an opinion. There are many in this country from both parties who disagree with this ruling and will reject this attempt to subjugate woman as second class citizens and push us back a hundred years. There are some who truly believe that woman have no right to vote or make decisions for themselves. I thought we had left Afghanistan? It is only through the power of the vote that we can change the system. Will it be sufficient to affect the mid-term elections? Quite possibly. And of course much has to do with the uninhibited right to vote. So how will this all play out? Tune in next week to this same channel and find out!

NEW MOON IN VIRGO:

The New Moon falls on Monday September 6^th at 8:52 P.M. EDT at 14 degrees Virgo 38 minutes. Summer is fading into the background; the memories of hot sand and cool drinks, long breezy nights and the early morning sun blasting through the shades. While it is officially summer until September 22^nd we all know that the weather begins its shift right after Labor Day and it’s with a tearful eye that I bid farewell to this brief and most precious of seasons. Now as the energy shifts from arrogant, showy Leo into focused, serious Virgo it’s time to settle in and look over our plans and projects and decide which are worth continuing and have a good chance of success and which don’t. Virgo is well known for its critical eye. This sign has a more realistic approach to things, and while it can at times be a little overly critical, as they say: “To everything there is a season”. Ecclesiastes (or, if you prefer, The Byrds). And this is the season of Virgo, the month when we deal with the details, begin the school year and put away the summer toys until next June. This has been a hellish year in so many ways. The raging pandemic, the insane weather events, the brutish exit from Afghanistan, and the ongoing political traumas our nation and the world are experiencing. But humankind has this remarkably resilient nature and the ability to push through the worst of times in hopes that we may ultimately find the best of times.

And to answer some of your unspoken questions, no I’m no Pollyanna and I have serious doubts about our future. If we don’t make some important decisions soon we will be facing a world I would rather at the moment not look too closely at. We are at a crossroads. There are issues that are so severe they cannot be ignored and they will not go away on their own. Which path we choose is a matter for the collective to decide. For now just focus on the immediate and get your own life in order. You can only have so much effect on the world, but you can have a major influence on your own situation and the lives of those around you. You can change a mind more easily with an idea than with a gun, or so my generation once believed. Are all of those dreams dead? So many need a helping healing hand right now and Virgo rules nursing and healing.

This is a time to extend support to those who rely on you and who are struggling just to get by. Save a single child and you save the world, so they say. Whether it’s friends in New Orleans, New York, New Jersey, in the fire line of the western states, the droughts in the wild west, or just giving a small donation to help the homeless, refugees or lifting a hand to help a friend move or paint their new apartment, this is a chance to do humankind a service no matter how slight it may feel. You never know how much that little bit of aid can help and make someone feel important and loved. So, happy New Moon and Happy New Year to all my friends whether you are Jewish or not. There are times when it’s important to celebrate if only to remind us of the potential joy the future may hold. Remember, it’s better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

 

THE SUN TRINES URANUS:

On Monday September 6^th at 9:29 P.M. EDT this very positive aspect follows shortly after the New Moon. I believe that the first transit on a new lunar cycle has much to do with the energy of the coming 2 ½ weeks at least until the Full Moon. This is a time when we can look for new and innovative ways of approaching our problems and situations, and find ways to circumvent the troubles. Go into this new month with a positive perspective. Not everything will work out, that’s too much to hope for. But if you can keep an open mind and look for different solutions instead of doing the same thing over and over again you may discover a unique and enlightening way of viewing the circumstances and find a path to success, even in an area that has proven difficult in the past. That is the blessing of Uranus. It doesn’t want you to look at the world in the usual or mundane way, but rather with the blinders removed so you can see all that is available to you. Today just keep your eyes and ears open and go forward for the coming weeks with optimism and clarity. You may be quite surprised at what you can accomplish.

 

VENUS ENTERS SCORPIO:

On Friday September 10^th at 4:39 P.M. EDT until October 7^th at 7:21 A.M. EDT Venus will enter this Mars co-ruled sign. Venus can feel a bit out of sorts in Scorpio. It is by nature a gentle planet more receptive than aggressive, and it can seem as though it’s working against its natural order to be placed in this Mars influenced place. But we are all made up of the 12 signs and we need to learn the karma of the energy throughout the zodiac. Those born with this placement often talk about the emotional intensity they feel and how it is difficult for them to let go of things. But that is what their soul needs to understand and so they are born at a time when this is being offered as a teaching method. This is true of all natal charts. The purpose of the birth date and time is to allow you to go through this lifetime and experience just what you need to see.

With these worldly transits the collective is given a similar chance for understanding. It’s a much shorter time, of course, and we need to pay attention and hear as much of the message as we can. There are lessons with every transit and with every planet’s travels through each of the 12 signs. Here we will experience some of the depth and severity of this 8^th sign as we all delve deeply into our relationships and seek a clearer and honest approach to how we are interacting. Scorpio is all about regeneration and renewal and its purpose and place in our development can’t be overstated. The 8^th house is where we repair, renew and replenish our faith and the structure upon which we grow. For the next month it will be within our grasp to experience that replenishing and to look into the foundation of our relationships. This can be a difficult transit because of the disconcerting sense that Venus is misplaced here. But we need to go through each planet’s transit through all 12 of the signs in order to fully understand its purpose and potential. So don’t be afraid to look deeply into the issues within your most intimate relationships. You may come to understand yourself through the mirror in the eyes of your lover, friend or partner in ways you hadn’t expected.

With Mars about to enter Venus ruled Libra on September 14^th we will experience a mutual receptivity where each planet is in the ruler of the other. This will help us balance the two and actually allow us a chance to make use of the combination of Venus and Mars in a rather unique and useful fashion. While each will feel out of place in the sign ruled by the other, there is a link that is set up forcing us to play both roles; the assertive and the receptive. As we feel our way through this period many truths will be revealed about the differences and similarities between the sexes. It’s a very positive and informative time and if you pay attention you will see a number of issues and questions being brought to the surface. A few of of the biggest facing our society right now include women’s rights, in Afghanistan and in Texas, and the role that men play in those issues. It isn’t by accident that both concerns have risen to the point of importance and consciousness just as the male and female planets enter each other’s domain.

 

THE SUN OPPOSES NEPTUNE:

On Tuesday September 14^th at 5:21 A.M. EDT we will face a moment of misunderstanding and doubt. The Sun is the will, the energy force that moves us all. Neptune tends to dissolve that force as its purpose is more ethereal and spiritual than material. For a few days leading up to this we all need to be careful. Things are not as they seem and it will be very easy to be misled or allow errors to misdirect us. Oppositions mostly work out through other people, so be careful how you relate to each other. Miscommunication and confusion abound and it is easy to hear what you want to, not necessarily what the other person has said. Double check facts, reread your emails before hitting that send button, and use caution while traveling or setting up things. A small error can set up a series of problems, each more difficult to fix as the dominoes cascade into one another. This is usually a very low energy day or two. If this hits your chart you may find that you are feeling under the weather or just too lethargic to do much. As long as there isn’t a serious health issue underlying this, you may be better off just resting as much as possible. This is not a good day to negotiate important contracts or make final decisions about a long-term plan. You aren’t thinking as clearly as you may believe and it’s the wise person who knows when to advance and when to wait. This is often a bad day in the equities markets, but with the way the stocks have been shrugging off most bad news, who knows? Still I will be trading defensively.

 

MARS ENTERS LIBRA:

On Tuesday September 14^th at 8:14 P.M. EDT until October 30^th at 10:21 A.M. EDT Mars enters this Venus ruled sign. As I said a few days ago, we are beginning a period of mutual receptivity when Mars and Venus are each in the sign ruled by the other. This in some ways bridges the gap between them and creates a connection bonding the male and female entities into a unit. This doesn’t imply that everything will be copacetic, or that there won’t be times of stress. Mars is all about ego and testosterone, and when it is placed in gentle Libra it can be difficult to be assertive in ways that it normally would be. This could result in moments of hesitation and doubt when action is really called for. There will be a lot of energy in relationship issues while this is traveling here. It’s best to sidestep any confrontations within an intimate connection. You may not be as clear about what’s happening as you think. Sometimes the ego gets in the way of common sense and you could feel that you are being rejected or ignored when in fact the other person may be feeling the same way, but neither of you has the oomph to push through the fog. Be the big kid and take the first step towards reconciliation. If you’re right you will be glad that you didn’t let an opportunity pass unexamined. If you’re wrong you will only confirm what you believed, and isn’t it better to know one way or another?

 

THE SUN TRINES PLUTO:

On Thursday September 16^th at 9:53 P.M. EDT this positive trine will allow us to examine things in a deep but un-troubling way. It’s easier to use the trines and sextiles, but only if we do so in a proactive manner. They do not force themselves upon us as the hard aspects (conjunct, opposition & square) do, but they also don’t demand our attention as much. It’s up to us to make use of this transit or it can pass without much fanfare. Don’t be afraid to dig into a subject or challenge each other to explain or examine your relationships and projects. You can do so without setting off World War III and if you are honest and open about your feelings and opinions you may actually be able to uncover some things that will help you grow as an individual or in tandem with each other.

 

VENUS SQUARES SATURN:

On Friday September 17^th at 2:15 A.M. EDT this rather harsh aspect will force us to tone down our exuberance and examine our closest connections in a clear and realistic fashion. This is a hard aspect and its effects will be felt more acutely than the Sun trine Pluto we had yesterday. Now it’s most important to see exactly what we are doing and what our motivations truly are. It’s a day or so when you should look over your relationships with a realistic and critical eye. If something is wrong you can only fix it by bringing it to light. If a problem in a relationship is serious enough to force a change or even the conclusion of the connection, if it’s to be done let it be done quickly. If you’re overreacting to some small slight you will be glad to know it. This isn’t an evil or negative aspect, it’s just a realistic one that will demand you pay attention and not waste your time and effort where it won’t do you any good. This is a good day for making a budget or for planning financial matters. You will be clear headed and see the truth about these issues, not what you hope and wish will be.

 

MERCURY TRINES JUPITER:

On Monday September 20^th at 6:53 P.M. EDT this very optimistic and positive trine will open our consciousness and allow in many ideas and input. We are heading towards the Pisces Full Moon this evening and having a good attitude will help a great deal when handling that rather confusing lunar peak. Today it will be easy to communicate and to say what’s on your mind. Use this energy to your advantage. The Full Moon may be difficult in some ways, as Pisces really isn’t the most direct or open of the signs. But with this Mercury-Jupiter aspect lingering for a while it could help us at least clear up some of the fog that can accompany this Full Moon. Talk to each other. See what’s on your minds and what you can do to find common ground and work towards similar goals.

 

FULL MOON

This month lunar peak falls on Monday September 20^th at 7:55 P.M. EDT at 28 degrees Pisces 14 minutes. Every year this Full Moon poses questions. What do you believe, how strong is your faith and where do you draw your line between reality and illusion? Wise men say if your faith is strong you can move mountains. But if the collective has lost its faith how can we expect to make shifts in resolving the problems we face? I believe that mankind is at a place of crisis when it is more urgent to discover something to believe in than to hold on to the decaying foundation of a society that has lost its way. This is a moment of spirituality and an awakening is certainly possible. Sometimes we must have our feet to the fire before we will accept a higher truth. We have certainly experienced enough over the past few years to qualify as a test of our beliefs. Just what lessons we have and will learn from this only time will tell.

Pisces rules medicine and all drugs, I make no distinction between legal and illegal. How well the body absorbs chemicals is shown by the placement and aspects to Neptune in the natal chart. They can be in the form of a pill, an herb or a mist, it doesn’t matter. If there is an imbalance in your system or if you aren’t reacting well to something you are ingesting, this may be the time when it will become obvious.

While I hope I’m wrong, there is some chance that this could imply another stressful weather problem. Storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, wind, etc. are all possible with the Neptune ruled Pisces housing this lunar event. Luckily it isn’t an eclipse, but I would still recommend some caution. Keep an eye on weather reports, and if there is a front approaching where you live, be smart and find a place to honker down. Besides that word of warning, this can be a very spiritual and deep moment in our collective where we explore some important issues and try to find our common empathy at a time when the world is rather harsh and intense. Neptune rules infectious diseases, and with the pandemic raging the way that it has been this summer this may be a moment of trauma or the peak of this surge. My wish of course is for the latter. Perhaps this represents the very top of the infections and we will see the numbers drop appreciatively over the coming few weeks. We can only hope. But it appears as though we continue to head in the opposite direction, as more deaths, hospitalizations and infections are counted.

 

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

On Wednesday September 22^nd at 9:12 A.M. EDT we will all tend to be harsh and unyielding in our communications. If something is bothering you or you feel some anger please be careful how you interact with others. This can be a difficult day when we have no filter on our speech and it will be easy to start a fight or get drawn into someone else’s situation. This is the kind of aspect when you just can’t help saying what’s on your mind, even when you know it could create some problems. Self-control is the key to working through this, so try to find some. As with all transits there is a positive side. There are times when we all refuse to acknowledge the difficult subjects we would rather leave buried. This square won’t allow that. If there’s something that needs to be brought to the surface it will happen now. Just be prepared to address those issues you may have been ignoring and face them openly and honestly.

 

THE SUN ENTERS LIBRA:

On Wednesday September 22^nd at 3:21 P.M. EDT we are at the autumn equinox. As I’ve reminded my readers for years, each of the 4 seasons begins when the Sun enters each of the 4 cardinal signs. Now we are in Venus ruled Libra, the sign of the scales. This is the sign we attribute to intimate one-on-one relationships, partnerships and business associates. Libra and the 7^thhouse rule lower courts, contracts and all legal matters not considered a felony. This is the place to examine these issues and make certain that you are heading in the right direction. We will all be more concerned with our intimate relationships – this includes romance, strong friendships, partnerships and certain small group activities.

 

VENUS OPPOSES URANUS:

On Thursday September 23^rd at 5:41 A.M. EDT and excitement is the word of the day. Look for unusual input and seek out people who are different from your regular group. This is a day or two for adventures and exuberance. You will be easily bored with your usual routine and need some fresh stimuli. Anything that will excite you is subject to experimentation. New relationships, a different kind of art, food, a trip somewhere new or just exciting; all are ways to express this opposition. But mostly this is about our interactions and what we need from each other. With the Sun just entering relationship oriented Libra this is a chance to explore some new ways of relating. It can be something as mundane as taking a drive into the country for brunch, or exploring the boundaries of a new or ongoing relationship. Whatever you do, don’t be afraid of something new.

 

MARS TRINES SATURN:

On Saturday September 25^th at 5:30 P.M. EDT this very useful and positive trine will give us a day or so when we can focus our energy and attention in a laser-like beam. You can work for long hours and accomplish much in a short time. You probably can’t write a novel or an opera in a day, but you may be able to rewrite that fist chapter so it sparkles and jumps off the page. Or maybe you can finish a project that has been ongoing for some time and weighs heavily on your consciousness. This is a day to be realistic and forthright. Others will appreciate your honesty and directness, and you can clear the air and put things on a path towards understanding and fruition.

 

MERCURY RETROGRADES IN LIBRA:

On Monday September 27^th at 1:10 A.M. EDT until October 18^th at 11:17 A.M. EDT Mercury will go backwards in this Venus ruled sign, where it will stay until November 5^th at 6:35 P.M. EDTwhen it will finally enter Scorpio. We have a plethora of Venus and Libra energy this month and it will manifest in a number of ways. For one thing, with the planet of communication retrograding in this sign we will all be discussing our one-on-one relationships with our partners, friends, family and maybe even strangers while on the checkout line in Whole Foods. The retrograde motion of any planet simply implies that the energy of that planet is internalized and we are working through some of the issues on a more unconscious level. But that is an over simplification. The reversal of Mercury as always can upset our ongoing plans and events. Communication, transportation, paperwork, mail, email, cell phones, and so many other devices often screw up. Those who study astrology know full well how mischievous this little devil can be. We should all be aware and take heed to the advice often given – double check your plans, back up your important documents and make sure that email telling someone to drop dead was sent to the right person. J Because this event is taking place in this 7^th sign, it will be all important to pay attention to your most important relationships and to ensure that you are as aware of what is happening within that connection as you can be. How many times I have seen people discovering a deal breaking letter or overhearing a phone call that has ruined what was considered a good and solid relationship. Oh well, as they say don’t listen at the key hole once you’ve left a room. You may not like what you hear.

 

VENUS TRINES NEPTUNE:

On Wednesday September 29^th at 12:14 P.M. EDT our creative side will be very stimulated. This is a good aspect for poets, musicians, actors, singers and all sorts of artistic endeavors. Even if you don’t actively pursue the arts you will have a greater appreciation of all creativity. Take in a show, museum, concert or other form of entertainment. You will gain a lot from it and it will help settle you down. As they say, music sooths the savage breast.

 

THE SUN TRINES SATURN:

On Wednesday September 29^th at 6:19 P.M. EDT we have another day of realistic and focused energy when we can get a lot done. This is a day for serious but gentle conversations. You won’t be brusque, as you might be under the conjunct, opposition of square. But you will want to reach an understanding and won’t suffer fools or frivolity. Plan your time carefully and set up an agenda with the most important issues addressed first. If you deal with this trine properly you can accomplish much in a day and set up a structure upon which you can continue to move your projects and plans forward.

 

VENUS SQUARES JUPITER:

On Thursday September 30^th at 7:31 P.M. EDT this rather exuberant square will give us all a day of unbridled desires and temptations. This is a very sociable aspect, and if you can keep it in perspective you will enjoy it immensely. But there is a tendency to overindulge and ignore boundaries and limitations. This is true in relationships, certainly and it’s important not to step over that line or be too demanding. It’s also quite possible to overdo all things, including food, drink, passion and even opinions. Say what’s on your mind, but don’t force your ideas on others. They have their boundaries too and if you don’t respect them this could all get blown out of proportion. This is a day to enjoy the good things in life. Worldly pleasures are prominent. Any form of entertainment or art will be very rewarding.

 

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

On Friday October 1^st at 10:26 A.M. EDT we will all tend to be rather demanding and pedantic especially in our communications. This is a very probing aspect and we will not be satisfied with superficial answer. We need to dig deeply into every subject and uncover what is buried beneath the surface. Use some care. You could easily overdo it and make someone feel threatened or misjudged. But with a little self-awareness this can be a very productive and positive aspect as long as you stay within proper boundaries. What is discovered with Pluto aspects can cut through a lot of B.S. and lead you to a solution that is clear, albeit difficult to accept at times. Stay focused and try to recognize the difference between the truth and your opinion. They both seem correct, and sometimes they both are. But other times we can assume that our inner voice is right when it may be only an echo of what you have said or heard in the past.

 

MERCURY TRINES JUPITER:

On Sunday October 3^rd at 8:05 P.M. EDT this will be a day of ease and comfort in our communications. Where the Mercury square Pluto mentioned above has the potential to be harsh and unyielding, this is more gregarious and generous. This combination allows you to say what’s on your mind, but in a way that others won’t take offense or become protective. This is a good day for travel. If you can get away and zip upstate or go to the country you will enjoy yourself immensely. Spending time with your closest people will be very satisfying as well. It’s a sociable energy and a party, dinner or other gathering might be a good way to bid goodbye to this lunar cycle.

 

DARK OF THE MOON:

The next New Moon falls on Wednesday October 6^th at 7:05 A.M. EDT at 13 degrees Libra 25 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the lunar cycles more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, don’t try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just won’t work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you don’t, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this “dead” energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.

The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.

The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours.
