Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
AUTHOR’S NOTES:
This is the 20th year of this newsletter, a milestone I never imagined when I began it. Time is an illusion at best, and it can shock and disturb us if we think about it too much. I respect the years and accept the necessity of aging, but I won’t dwell on it or let it run my life. There’s so much more I wish to do and so many projects and exciting adventures I hope to experience. While it’s human nature to reflect and at times feel remorse, the choices I made, right or wrong, were mine and I own them and accept the consequences. The one thing I do regret is the people I have loved who have left, either of their own volition or because of circumstances beyond our control. They have left a gap in my soul that cannot be replaced. But the memories are with me and I hope they will never fade. Those of you who know my music know that many of my songs are reflective and look back at what was. Some were written decades ago, and yet I feel as though I wrote them for who I am today. My brother always told me that I was writing about the future but call it the past. Now that so many years have passed, I see how correct his evaluation was, and in many cases how prophetic, for better or for worse, were my words.
I have tried in the 235 issues of this newsletter to always be honest and direct in my opinions and my astrological interpretation. Some readers do not agree with my politics or my view on world events, and I respect their point of view. While I do try to separate my personal feelings from my astrological perspective there are times when they will overlap and perhaps interfere with the clarity I attempt. I think that’s human nature. But I have never knowingly pushed my personal agenda nor altered my astrological interpretation for any purpose.
URANUS ENTERS TAURUS DURING THIS LUNAR CYCLE:
On Wednesday March 6th at 3:35 A.M. EST this most erratic and unpredictable planet reenters the fixed earth sign, where it will stay until 2026. Because this is occurring right on the Dark of the Moon it implies that there are a number of issues that will be ending now. This will include certain financial matters, and we will see some of our values changing in a radical and impulsive way. There are many areas that will be affected by this extended transit, but I am watching the financial markets closely and I expect several periods of instability over the next few years with serious repercussions. For one thing, Taurus is the 2nd sign of the zodiac and thus rules the natural 2nd house of money, values and possessions. While it doesn’t rule the trading markets or banks directly, any activity in this sign will have worldwide effects on the overall finances and create instability on a base level. Our values are changing, there’s no question about that. We see it in our political process, and in social and economic situations. There are many issues that are being raised now that will have long term effects on our culture. The divide in our nations is extreme, more so than at any time I can remember. The entire world is being pulled in two directions at once. That’s pretty much what one would expect from a powerful Uranus transit. And whenever this planet changes signs there are some strong repercussions. As it settles into Taurus we will see a number of events, including political upheavals, radical financial changes and even an increase in earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, droughts and other climate actions. It will become impossible to ignore that changes our world is experiencing, and even the most adamant and obstinate climate change deniers will no longer be able to do so without looking foolish. We are most definitely about to enter a period of radical and unpredictable changes. So hang on to your hats and be ready for anything.
NEW MOON:
The New Moon falls on Monday February 4th at 4:04 P.M. EST at 15 degrees Aquarius 45 minutes. This month is all about the sudden unpredictability of Aquarius. This can be a very positive or a difficult thing depending on how you approach it. This is a chance to begin new projects and to look at your situation from an unusual perspective. If you can tune into the affirmative side of this energy you may be able to break free from preconceived notions and find a different way of dealing with ongoing problems. This can be inspirational and exciting, and it does offer the opportunity to explore an expansion of boundaries and unusual ways of dealing with things. But this sign can also express itself in radical and unexpected ways that make it hard to handle. There is an erratic and unpredictable side to this sign that at times can be difficult to make and stick to plans, and the best way to prepare for this is to try to remain flexible. If you approach things from too rigid an attitude you may not be open to new ideas or perspectives that come your way.
This is often the time when the weather reminds us who’s in charge and we see severe and dangerous situations. With the recent deep freeze in the Midwest we see what winter is capable of. As we enter Aquarius it’s important to expect the unexpected, which certainly includes weather events. Those who see this current arctic weather pattern and say: “Global warming is a hoax” are misguided. They don’t understand the difference between weather and climate, and they draw their conclusions without knowledge or common sense. But then, as they say, common sense is not that common. Weather is what we deal with day to day – is it sunny or raining, or is snow in the forecast? But climate has to do with long term effects that are measured in decades or centuries. As the Arctic ice continues to melt it will release much of its pent-up frigid energy into the atmosphere, which will move down the continent and periodically brutally affect the northern states. This cold is not a denial of global warming, but rather a confirmation of it. You don’t have to believe me, but please do some studying and learn what this is all about.
THE SUN SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Thursday February 7th at 7:33 P.M. EST this very positive and social transit will give us a day of optimism and a far-sighted point of view. Look at your projects and plans and see where you may be able to expand and push the boundaries out a bit. You should be able to do so without much resistance from the universe. While this sextile won’t be powerful enough to move mountains, you may be able to begin the process and set your sights on larger schemes that will take some time to complete. The best way to use transits is to see their potential and limitations and to act within that framework with an eye on the future. This is a good day for any social gathering or for renewing a relationship that may have grown distant. This aspect is followed by Mercury in sextile to Mars, another very positive and useful energy that will bring a lot of energy to your communications. Maybe there’s someone you’ve been meaning to call for month but just didn’t seem to have the time. Now maybe you will.
MERCURY SEXTILES MARS:
Also, on Thursday February 7th at 8:25 P.M. EST we will all have something to say and we won’t be shy about it. This is a very communicative transit that will allow you to say what’s on your mind and to clearly express your desire, needs and wishes. Because this is a positive sextile you can get things off your chest without being overly aggressive. This combination allows you to put your thoughts into an assertive and focused way and to be quite direct in stating your opinion. If you have an important conversation or presentation to make that requires a clear approach this may be a good day to do so. This is followed in 2 days by Mercury sextile Uranus, which will continue this active mental energy and give us all a few days when we can make our point in a useful and productive manner.
MERCURY SEXTILES URANUS:
On Saturday February 9th at 5:53 P.M. EST this sextile will give us another day of active mental and verbal interaction. Ideas will flow quickly, and many of us will be inundated with a lot of communications of all sorts. It’s possible that they may get out of hand and it could be difficult to keep up with it all. Try not to make too many promises or commitments as you may not be able to fulfill them. But use this positive sextile to your advantage and get your paperwork done. If there’s a creative project you’ve been trying to complete this may be the day you accomplish a week’s worth of work in a few hours. Try to take those blinders off and look at all the possibilities that are around you.
MERCURY ENTERS PISCES:
On Sunday February 10th at 5:51 A.M. EST until April 17th at 2:01 A.M. EDT the planet of communication will travel through this spiritual sign. Because of the retrograde action of Mercury, it will stay in Pisces for more than 2 months, a rather long period in one sign. This will create some confusion and can make decisions difficult to come to. You may find yourself more interested in creative or spiritual issues than usual. This can be a very good placement for artists, but a difficult one for business people. For one thing, this sign doesn’t care that much about the material world. It’s more concerned with our inner workings and the underlying sense of karma and compassion. While this is a wonderful and important thing, it is in some ways the opposite of our realistic attitude that our society is mostly based on. People with a heavily Neptunian chart can at times feel out of place in this world and may even eventually feel the need to remove themselves to a more remote and gentler lifestyle, especially if Mercury is involved either in this sign or by hard aspect to Neptune. While I don’t expect too many people to rush off and live in the wilderness or escape to the desert during this transit, there may be an underlying sense of displacement that the more sensitive among us may experience. If you do feel somewhat out of sorts while this transit occurs, look at your own natal chart and see how Neptune, Pisces and the 12th house are aspected. Find creative outlets over the next few months as well as ways to express your compassion and generosity. You may find this to be a very enlightening and profound time if you use it properly. And make an effort to ensure that your communications are understood.
MARS CONJUNCTS URANUS:
On Wednesday February 13th at 1:19 A.M. EST an electric surge will shoot through the world. Because this completes early in the morning its effects will be strongest the night before, and its energy will be waning by late morning Wednesday. Still, it is setting the tone for a few days in advance and a day or so following its completion, so caution is called for. While this is a dangerous and potentially explosive aspect and it requires your close attention, it can also represent an opportunity to push through any blocks or resistance you may be experiencing. In this fashion it can be a very positive and proactive moment that can have extremely productive results. But remember that this is a tremendous amount of energy being focused, and if it isn’t handled properly it could result in accidents, disputes or even acts of violence. Most of us will not experience the most radical of reactions, but disagreements are certainly possible, so try not to overreact to some small slight. Pay attention and don’t overreact. Because this can be an accident waiting to happen you need to be aware of your surroundings and be extra careful when traveling. If this sets off your chart you may be prone to anger, and if you aren’t paying attention to your inner feelings you might not be conscious of your rage. That could easily manifest as a volatile situation. But even if you are feeling some anger, if you stay alert and can direct your irritation into a more productive outlet, or can find a passive place within, you can avoid most complications. If you can work with this energy you will be able to move your projects forward or unclog a logjam that may have been causing you frustration. It’s really all about attitude and how you approach a situation. Unconscious energy will act on its own volition. But if it’s focused and consciously directed it will do your bidding.
MARS ENTERS TAURUS:
On Thursday February 14th at 5:51 A.M. EST until March 31st at 2:12 A.M. EDT the god of war enters the 2nd sign of fixed earth. This can be the most stubborn of signs and with Mars’ well-earned reputation as an aggressive energy it may be hard to divert any conflicts or to find common ground. Taurus isn’t known for its ability to compromise, and that is where we may have the most difficulty with this transit. While Mars is traveling here it would be best to make your decisions after carefully examining all possibilities and then go into the situation assuming the other person has done the same. If you can be somewhat flexible you may be able to accomplish a great deal. Taurus wants to achieve earthly success, and Mars rules the ego. So, the issue isn’t with the desire to get things done, but rather with an unbending will that doesn’t readily accept change. If you can be the one willing to make concessions, you will have a stronger hand and more power. Because Mars travels through this sign for about 6 weeks there will probably be a number of circumstances that will offer us an opportunity to learn this lesson and to find the will for flexibility. Try to take advantage of it.
THE SUN SEXTILES URANUS:
On Monday February 18th at 2:45 A.M. EST this positive and creative energy will give us a day or so when it will be easier to make changes in some areas. Look for new and untried ways to approach your issues. You may find an unusual way of dealing with a problem. You could also find some new input that will change your attitude. Because this is followed closely by Venus conjunct Saturn there will still be issues that aren’t easily altered, especially in close personal relationships. But if you stay open-minded and are willing to look for new ways of dealing with old problems you might find some interesting solutions. With Mars transiting Taurus now as well, there is a certain lack of flexibility and many find it difficult to bend with the wind. Here’s a quick moment that may show you the way.
VENUS CONJUNCTS SATURN:
Also, on Monday February 18th at 5:52 A.M. EST this rather dour conjunct will give us a day of some restrictions and limitations. Because Venus is currently traveling through Saturn-ruled Capricorn this aspect may be more powerful than usual. For a day or so leading up to this conjunct many will feel tired or unenthusiastic about things. Don’t take it too seriously. This isn’t the easiest aspect for interacting with others. Friendships, business partnerships and especially intimate relationships may be difficult to deal with. But Saturn’s realistic approach will challenge any relationship that has been experiencing difficulties and demand that you see things in a clear and honest light. There are times when we must examine our closest connections and make sure that they are still valid and serving a purpose in our lives. Those that are still effective will pass the test and become even stronger. Only those that are no longer useful will feel a negative effect. In some cases, you may find it necessary to end the relationship altogether. But this will only be true about those that are holding you back from your personal growth. Sometimes it necessary to weed out a garden so new life can find room to blossom. But don’t jump the gun. Mostly it’s a moment of reflection and testing. Even if you do feel that something has outlived its purpose you don’t have to act suddenly. You can mull it over for a few days and then if you still feel that way, you can respond accordingly.
THE SUN ENTERS PISCES:
On Monday February 18th at 6:04 P.M. EST we enter the last sign of the zodiac. This is a difficult energy to understand, especially if you insist on looking for logic or tend to deal with things on a material level. Pisces and its ruler, Neptune are not that concerned with issues of what we normally call reality. It’s more about the ethereal and the spiritual side of life and how we connect our existence between the material and the mystical. I’ve often found that people who are heavily Piscean have one foot in either plane and balance precariously in both worlds. While there is a strong desire to escape there is also a need to serve others, which can be done best in the functional and real world.
While the Sun transit through this sign it’s important to stay in tune with the underlying vibrations of the soul and to keep the chakras open and experience what our inner voice is saying. But it’s also a time of completions and preparation for the New Year that will take place on the first day of Aires, so don’t ignore the structure that you rely upon. Look over your projects and your plans and see which are closest to fruition. Those are the ones that you should focus your energy on and try to bring to the next level. This is a time when compassion and a deeper understanding will serve you well. Open your heart and recognize that because this period does often represent the end of matters, there may be issues in your life or in someone close to you that are coming to an end and must be recognized as such. It’s difficult for humans to accept the end of things and someone near you may need help doing just that. Remember, love is stronger than hate but only if it is given with an open and caring heart.
MERCURY CONJUNCTS NEPTUNE:
On Tuesday February 19th at 1:37 A.M. EST confusion reigns supreme. This is a foggy and difficult aspect for all communications. You need to be very careful and double check all emails or texts before you send them. Mistakes and misunderstandings are common, and you may not realize it until later. You must use care when traveling. Because of the potential for errors you could show up for your plane or train only to discover that you misread the time of departure. When driving you must stay aware of what’s happening around you. Errors in judgment are common, and it may not be you who makes the mistake but the person in the car in front of you. So, drive defensively.
FULL MOON:
This month’s lunar peak occurs on Tuesday February 19th at 10:54 A.M. EST at 0 degrees Virgo 42 minutes. This Full Moon will test our ability to view things with an open mind and not allow preconceived notions to be overwhelming. All aspects that occur at zero degrees have a more intense feeling. Virgo is a very loving and generous sign. Its energy is quite healing – it rules the natural 6th house of health, and it rules nursing. Many of those I know with much Virgo energy can be gentle and caring. But it also tends to be very detail-oriented and can be a bit nit-picky and get caught up in the little details at times missing the bigger picture. Try to step back a bit and remember that there are issues larger than what you’re facing today. Because of Virgo’s influence in medicine and healing, any health issues that have been simmering in the undercurrent could come to the surface now and demand your attention if this Full Moon hits your chart. This will not make you sick. It will only expose problems that already exist, so if something shows itself, pay attention and have it checked out.
MERCURY SEXTILES SATURN:
Also, on Tuesday February 19th at 9:39 P.M. EST this very realistic aspect will make us all look at our lives through an honest lens. This is a good day for any type of paperwork and you can get a lot of detail-oriented stuff done in a short time. It’s also a good day for a direct conversation. People will be open and candid, but they won’t be too confrontational. We are all looking for ways of expressing ourselves and getting to the bottom of some issue. If you’re open to hearing what someone has to say this can be a very positive and productive aspect. Try to use it to your advantage and clear out some projects that have required completion for some time.
MERCURY SQUARES JUPITER:
On Friday February 22nd at 3:40 P.M. EST people will be extremely chatty and many of us will be busy with communications of all sorts. While this is a positive and optimistic aspect it can be a bit overwhelming, and you need to stay focused and deal with the important things first. Otherwise you could get swamped by frivolous chatter. This square can produce too much noise and you may not be able to deal with all of the input. If you’re traveling you need to pay attention to where you’re going. Mistakes are quite common. Jupiter is not known for dealing with details particularly well, and you could easily overlook some important things. If you’re writing, this is a good day to put down your ideas. But you will need to do some editing in a few days. If something very important must go out to the public now, try to find someone to look it over and double check your work. This is an aspect under which you may send an email to the wrong person and be sorry about it down the line, so be careful. Enjoy the chatting and the interaction with others. But just use a little caution and make sure you aren’t making mistakes. Because this is followed by Venus conjunct Pluto there is a chance that you could say something to a close friend or significant other that you will regret.
VENUS CONJUNCTS PLUTO:
Also, on Friday February 22nd at 10:49 P.M. EST we will all be digging deeply into our relationships and trying to uncover the truth about things. While this is a positive application in the long run, it’s quite possible to dig too deeply and bring to the surface some things that may be better off left alone. Anything that does come up now will be difficult to let go of. Pluto’s compulsive nature makes it hard to let thing be, and while it may be necessary to discuss some things, with Mercury in square to Jupiter today as well, and with Mercury about to sextile Pluto tomorrow, it’s also very easy to overdo it and make a mountain out of molehill, as they say. So try to tread lightly on issues that aren’t demanding your immediate attention. You can always discuss them at another time when the transits aren’t that demanding.
MERCURY SEXTILES PLUTO:
On Saturday February 23rd at 12:15 P.M. EST we have an opportunity to uncover the truth without seriously disrupting the status quo. Pluto wants to purge whatever is infecting the body, collective or other situation. We use the term “death and rebirth” for this planet, although that does not necessarily mean actual death. Its purpose is to clear the way for new things, which often includes letting go of what is no longer valid. Because this is a positive sextile you can go through this process in a proactive and constructive way and you may be able to release some pent up ideas, relationships or attitudes that may be blocking you from growth. This is a quick-moving transit, so don’t expect to radically change your life in a few hours. But you can engage in an important conversation or review of your work and discover ways in which you can improve the situation and unburden it.
THE SUN SEXTILES MARS:
On Wednesday February 27th at 9:33 P.M. EST this very positive and energetic aspect will give us all a jolt of force. This is a good day to get any kind of work accomplished. Physical tasks in particular should be successful, but you should also feel a surge of energy in your mental work. Any task that you’ve been meaning to accomplish will be easier today. Maybe there’s a short story or article that needs editing, a room that needs a deep cleaning, or a closet full of old stuff that must be dealt with. Get to it now. This is a very good day to use your muscles, and if you are usually sitting at a computer you should try to get out and do something active. Any physical activity will be rewarding.
VENUS SQUARES URANUS:
On Friday March 1st at 7:31 A.M. EST relationships will take a decidedly strange turn. This square only last about a day, and while it’s applying you should be careful not to overreact to personal issues. If a new person enters your life now, you would be wise to allow some time to pass before committing too much to the relationship, no matter what the definition of that connection seems to be. This can bring on erratic and unstable situations that will not be as realistic as you may think. It can at times bring some very exciting and new ideas, people and projects, and as long as you are looking at it with a realistic and clear mind you may have a wonderfully freeing and exhilarating time. Uranus can shake us up enough to break us free from a logjam or boring period, and that may be just what you need right now. But if you’re looking for a long term or stabilizing force you may be disappointed in the end. Have some fun. Enjoy the adventure and let your hair down. But keep your eyes open. Venus will enter Uranus-ruled Aquarius in a few hours, and that will continue the excitement for some time.
VENUS ENTERS AQUARIUS:
Also on Friday March 1st as 11:45 A.M. EST until March 26th at 3:43 P.M. EDT Venus will travel through this exciting sign. You can expect relationships to be adventurous and different, and perhaps a new person will come into your life, especially if Venus sets off your chart just right during the next few weeks. Just try to keep an even mind and give any new situation time to prove it’s what it seems. It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of something and ignore your usual filters. You should certainly try to have some fun now, especially after a month of Venus’ travels through Capricorn when we all tended towards a more conservative and reserved approach. While Venus is traveling here there will be a number of opportunities for new and adventurous possibilities. Some unusual people may present themselves, or a new project that is radically different from your regular ideas might be just diverse enough to stimulate your creative juices.
MERCURY RETROGRADES:
On Tuesday March 5th at 1:19 P.M. EST until March 28th at 9:59 A.M. EDT Mercury will be running backwards. As many of you know, this is a thrice a year event that can cause havoc in communications and transportation. It’s a period when normal interaction can be easily upset. There are often problems with computers, cell phones, planes, trains and automobiles. While Mercury is in retrograde you should not buy a new device involving communications or transportation, unless you have no choice. If you lose your phone you may have no choice but to get a new one. Free-will is a relative term that we at times have little control over. But if you can, I would wait before buying a new phone, iPad, computer, car, or even headphones. I have seen people ignore this advice and purchase a new product, then tell me how wonderful it’s working – until the next retrograde when it implodes. Oh well, you can’t convince everyone.
This retrograde will occur in the sign of Pisces, perhaps the most spiritual, confusing and misunderstood of all the signs. Its purpose isn’t material, it’s more ethereal, which is one reason why it, and its ruler Neptune can create problems. We live on the material plane, and as much as we wish to be spiritual beings, and should, in my opinion strive to achieve that goal, there are times when the two philosophies will clash. Always feed your soul and your compassion, but if you don’t feed your body as well there won’t be a place for you to do your work. So pay heed to both. While this retrograde is in effect we will see some secrets revealed as the truth bubbles up from the unconscious. There will be surprises both good and bad, and some things that need to be looked at will demand your attention. Retrograde Mercury isn’t a negative or bad aspect. It can be disruptive, but at times that’s the only way to get someone’s attention. Deal with what comes up in a direct and clear manner and this will be a positive time, even with the unsettledness that may accompany it.
URANUS ENTERS TAURUS:
On Wednesday March 6th at 3:35 A.M. EST this most erratic and unpredictable planet reenters the fixed earth sign, where it will stay until 2026. Because this is occurring right on the Dark of the Moon it implies that there are a number of issues that will be ending now. This will include certain financial matters, and some of our values will be changing in a radical and impulsive way. There are many areas that will be affected by this extended transit, but I am watching the financial markets closely and I expect several periods of instability with serious repercussions.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Wednesday March 6th at 11:04 A.M. EST at 15 degrees Pisces 47 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the lunar cycles more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, don’t try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just won’t work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you don’t, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this “dead” energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about six hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition. All times are Eastern Daylight Time:
February 5th 6:59 P.M. – 9:02 P.M.
February 7th 5:13 P.M. – February 8th 9:34 A.M. ***Moon is void 16 hours
