October – November 2012
Because the placement of the planets right now, the moon will be void of course for long periods of time this month. (see the last page of this newsletter) In fact, even the New Moon is Void of Course, and this will add an element of disconnection and disarray to many plans and objectives for this lunar cycle. It will be difficult to avoid all of these extended V.C. moons, but pay attention to their timing and try to work around them. DonÕt make important purchases or decisions while under this lunar influence.
So the election is finally upon us. As most of you know, Mercury will retrograde at 6:04 P.M. on Election Day, so we can expect a similar mess to what occurred in 2004, (IÕm sure you all remember the hanging chads!) Just what confusion and difficulties will ensue, nobody knows. But you can be sure that there will be reversals in some contests and some results may not be known for days, or even (gasp) weeks!
No matter what the talking heads say, this election has less to do with the economy than with many other issues. As I have said repeatedly in this newsletter, no matter who wins, the economy will be in danger for the next four years, as Uranus continues to square Pluto. The policies that will be implemented during the next four years will have a greater long-term effect on our country than many realize.
What is at issue here is the future of our country for the next 40 years. Revolutions in America donÕt take place in the streets, but in the courts. Ruth Ginsberg canÕt last forever. If Romney wins we will see a Supreme Court split of six to three conservative justices. There will be a dismantling of the New Deal, an end to safe and legal abortions, an attack on birth control, gay rights, Medicare, Social Security, etc. effectively turning back the social and political gains of the last half century. Most of the conservative justices now sitting on the bench are quite young and should be there for at least twenty years or more.
Why any woman who is not ruled by a right-wing religious agenda would vote for Romney I can not fathom. After struggling for literally thousands of years, woman have finally gathered power, influence, and to some extent, a more level playing field than ever before in human history. The Republicans have all intentions of turning that clock back to the dark ages. Their agenda includes taking away legal abortion (Paul Ryan has said repeatedly that he is vehemently opposed to abortion under ANY circumstances), and even an attack on contraceptive rights! Are you kidding? Their desire to control women financially, politically, and sexually is blatant and even if your head is in the sand (or somewhere else) you can still hear them screaming their agenda.
We have no idea what economic policies Romney and Ryan will follow. They have shown us zero plans to tackle the economic doldrums, except to denounce the federal government and attempt to shrink its role in our policies. Their ideas are childish, and their math fabricated. Despite the fact the Obama literally saved the auto industry, prevented a major depression through his policies, including government stimulus, they continue to denounce the very policies that have saved us from a complete and total meltdown. If the Republicans win, you can be quite sure that our economy will become worse, the besieged middle class will continue to be burdened, and the Wall Street – corporate cartel will rule America for generations to come. Lord, protect us from ourselves.
If the Republicans win, I expect some direct and violent encounters as the lives of the working family become untenable, and eventually martial law in some places, as the Romney administration attacks the rights of the individual. His plan is quite clearly spelled out on his website. ItÕs only while wearing his public mask that Romney can present himself as a moderate. There is nothing moderate at all about his ideas, agenda, or party. He plans to deregulate Wall Street, strip the government of any oversight, and give all the power to the rich. He will decimate the environmental controls that we have fought so hard for decades to implement, and the tree huggers can kiss their Ash goodbye.
Whatever the outcome of this election, even if the Democrats win, the attack on the rights of the individual will not stop. The right wing of this country has declared all out war against any liberal or progressive idea or policy. To paraphrase the old saying: Freedom isnÕt free. It comes at a cost. Are we willing to pay that cost in personal discomfort and struggle against a close-minded, ruling class minority? Or do we close our eyes and hope that when we open them again everything will be wonderful?
Ignorance is when your eyes are closed. Stupidity is when you close them again once they have been open. Short-sightedness has been the downfall of humanity time and again. Once more we are at a crossroads in our history that requires a broader and open minded interpretation. If not, we are doomed once more to repeat history and fall back into the quicksand we just climbed out of.
The New Moon falls on Monday October 15th at 8:03 A.M. EST at 22 degrees Libra 32 minutes. This month will have much to do with relationships, Libras favorite subject. This is an opportunity to begin a new relationship or a new phase of an ongoing one. However, because this New Moon is void of course, donÕt expect your projects and schemes that you begin now to work out as planned. V.C. New Moons have a nasty habit of taking an unexpected twist. This entire lunar cycle will have that V.C. feeling. Election Day falls in the last quarter of this lunar cycle, just as Mercury begins its retrograde. Things will not complete as we had expected, nor will this election be an easy one on this nation, no matter who wins.
MERCURY SEXTILES VENUS:
On Tuesday October 16th at 8:32 A.M. EST communication of all sorts will bring much enjoyment and a feeling of fulfillment. This is a good day for any conversation or short journey. ItÕs a good morning for a long walk or a drive. This sextile takes place with Mercury in Scorpio and Venus in Virgo. On October 25th (see below) we will experience this sextile with Mercury in Sagittarius and Venus in Libra. It is the same aspect, but with much different planetary placement. For those students of astrology you should pay attention to how these two play out.
VENUS SQUARES JUPITER:
Also on Tuesday October 16th at 7:34 P.M. EST the two benefic planets are in square. This is different from most other squares. While it still implies conflict or tension, when these two get together the most common reaction is overdoing things, especially pleasurable activities, such as eating or drinking. There is a strong desire for enjoyment, and as long as boundaries and limitations are respected thereÕs no reason why you shouldnÕt indulge. This often coincides with a sharp move in the agricultural commodities, particularly cotton.
THE SUN ENTERS SCORPIO:
On Monday October 22nd at 8:14 P.M. EST we enter the fixed part of autumn. This sign is very stubborn, as are all the fixed signs, and itÕs often difficult to get things moving. Scorpio rules the elimination of waste; in the body, the home, relationships, and in your own thoughts and ideas. It is most important to continue to move the chi in all situations, and not let things back up and become unproductive. ItÕs not by accident that the removal of waste pertinent to our society. New ideas and fresh input is what keeps us young and active. All the fixed signs have some difficulty with that concept, as they tend to cling to the status quo more than the other signs. And you will find that many people born with a lot of fixed energy will develop physical difficulties from the inability to keep things flowing. The intensity that this sign produces can not be ignored. Many of us will experience power struggles, especially in relationships. But donÕt forget that this sign, and the 8th house it rules, have to do with rejuvenation, and sometimes we must take one step back to move two steps forward. DonÕt be afraid of change. Nothing is destroyed or created, just redefined.
THE SUN TRINES NEPTUNE:
On Tuesday October 23rd at 7:15 A.M. EST this trine will offer us all a chance for creative thinking and activities. This isnÕt a terribly powerful aspect, but its underlying themes are all about opening our consciousness to new ideas and ways of looking at the world. This morning is a good time to tackle any artistic venture, or creative way of seeing your life and struggles.
THE SUN CONJUNCTS SATURN:
On Thursday October 25th at 4:32 A.M. EST this very restrictive aspect completes. This is one of the most difficult of transits, and since it falls in the middle of the night most of us will not experience its full force. Still, for a day or so leading up to this you can expect people to be reticent and limited in their concepts. Communication is difficult, and an underlying tension will be present. This is not a good time for new beginnings, but rather a time of completions. Get your work finished and clear the decks. Otherwise it will be difficult to start new projects.
MERCURY SEXTILES VENUS:
Also on Thursday October 25th at 1:11 P.M. EST we will experience this sextile one more time in this month. However, as I said above, the planets are now in brighter and more sociable signs than on October 16th (see above). This will be a day of pleasant interaction and communications. Try to take advantage of it and find sociable outlets.
MARS OPPOSES JUPITER:
On Sunday October 28th at 8:56 A.M. EST this rather feisty and exuberant aspect comes along. Egos will be blown out of proportion for a day or so leading up to this. Keeping an eye on boundaries and putting your own ego in a realistic place will help. But you canÕt do much about other peopleÕs reactions to this, so donÕt go blindly into situations where someone else can force their opinion on you. Oppositions always work through other people, and this aspect can do great harm to ongoing relationships unless you understand the need for limitations.
VENUS ENTERS LIBRA:
Also On Sunday October 28th at 9:04 A.M. EST Venus enters one of the two signs it rules. This will add even more energy towards relationships. The only drawback is that Libra is a passive-aggressive sign and even Venus traveling through it may lack directness and the necessary assertiveness to move a relationship forward. But if you act too aggressively, as that Mars opposite Jupiter mentioned above may force you to do, Venus will feel out of sorts and withdraw to its more submissive side. Try to be lighthearted about your closest connections and you may find it easier to handle a partner or love interest.
MERCURY ENTERS SAGITTARIUS & SQUARES NEPTUNE:
On Monday October 29th at 2:18 A.M. EST & 1:41 P.M. EST Mercury will enter this most expansive of signs for a few weeks until it retrogrades back into Scorpio on November 14th. While Mercury is in Sagittarius it will tend to expand our thoughts and ideas, often without the structure and boundaries that we are used to. Those born with Mercury in this sign are usually outgoing and intellectually curious, but they can easily miss the details in most situations. That is what you must consider. Double check all plans and projects, especially for the small things where the devil lives. The square to Neptune is very debilitating and shows the type of energy we will be working with for a while. This square will produce confusion, miscommunication, and difficulty making decisions. Because of the retrograde motion of Mercury this month we will experience this square two more time: November 13th and December 11th. Use caution and if you donÕt understand something, ask for clarity.
This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Monday October 29th at 3:49 P.M. EST at 06 degrees Taurus 48 minutes. This is the fixed earth sign, perhaps the most stubborn and unbending of all. Taurus rules the 2nd house, and values will be the issue for the next 2 ½ weeks until the next New Moon. Of course Election Day looms heavily on the horizon, and this election certainly is all about values. For the few days surrounding this lunar peak we should all be careful of our finances and long-term decisions we make. If this Full Moon hits sensitive points in your chart you could have an issue involving your finances. Use caution around this time, and pay strict attention to anything that comes up, especially if it has 2nd house implications.
VENUS OPPOSES URANUS:
On Thursday November 1st at 6:06 P.M. EST Venus will begin to set off that wonderful Uranus – Pluto square we have been dealing with lately. The opposition to Uranus will make many of us fickle and quite changeable, especially in out closest partnerships and romances. This is not a stable aspect, and you can expect reversals or a sudden redirection of affection. Any affair that begins now may be exciting, but it will not have the foundation needed upon which to build a future. Use some caution around alcohol or drugs. The erratic nature of Uranus may create an unexpected reaction.
VENUS SQUARES PLUTO:
On Saturday November 3rd at 1:26 P.M. EST the second half of this Uranus – Pluto square will complete. This is a compulsive and demanding transit and we will all be delving deeply into our relationships. This is a difficult aspect, but it offers us a chance to clean out any waste or blockage that may be holding back your growth as an individual or the growth of an existing relationship.
On Tuesday November 6th Election Day at 6:04 P.M. EST our favorite mischief maker begins his backward dance. The difficulties this may produce will be quite messy, especially in our elections. Expect delays and frustration. As always, use extra care with traveling or dealing with communication. Double check all plans, and try not to sign important documents until Mercury turns around again November 26th at 5:48 P.M. EST.
VENUS TRINES JUPITER:
On Friday November 9th at 2:26 A.M. EST the lesser and greater benefic planets are in harmony. This trine is most pleasant and sociable. Its effect will be felt as the aspect applies, so plan a social gathering or date for Thursday night.
NEPTUNE GOES DIRECT:
On Sunday November 11th at 2:53 A.M. EST this most mysterious of planets changes direction. While in retrograde creative and spiritual issues were internalized. The inner conversation held the key to self-awareness and understanding, and absorbing these themes was akin to setting a sponge in a bucket of water, gulping up the energy until satiated. Now that it is going direct once again it will be easier to present artistic ventures to the outside world. As with all retrograding planets, as Neptune turns around it will lead to confusion and misdirection as we get used to its new direction.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Tuesday November 13th at 5:08 P.M. EST at 21 degree Scorpio 57 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ÒdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.

Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition. All times are Eastern:
