LIVING BY STARLIGHT

AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER

APRIL 2009

AUTHORÕS NOTES:

Most pressing on everyoneÕs mind, of course, is the economy. Have the stocks bottomed out? Absolutely not. The reason why up markets are called Bulls, and down markets are called Bears is because a Bull market will move along in a normal up and down pattern of trading, slowly and meticulously aiming higher. It prods along, not unlike a bull. A down market is violent, unpredictable and easily upset. It can rise thousands of points on nothing, and drop back down to test the lows in a flash. It is dangerous to trade or invest in a bear market. That is what we have to deal with for a number of years to come. As I said in this newsletter over the past few months, the last time we saw Saturn in opposition to Uranus began a 16 year bear market, from 1966 – 1982. But the world didnÕt fall apart, America didnÕt go out of business, and we eventually began a new bull run. It will take time to fix this mess – a lot of time. All the patchwork done to stop the bleeding will come home to roost before a real solution is found.

The last time we saw this opposition, in Õ65-Õ67, Johnson declared his ŅWar on PovertyÓ, a need to redistribute the wealth of our country. Now this opposition completes again, but in the opposite signs as in the Ō60s. Then, Saturn was in Pisces and Uranus was in Virgo. Now they are in the reversed signs. On this pass we are seeing a ŅWar on WealthÓ, also a need to redistribute the wealth. It is the same war with a different name. The real problem, of course, is in the fundamental workings of the system. There is nothing wrong with being rich, I would like to try it myself sometime. And I am basically a capitalist, although I prefer to call myself a Sociatolist, a believer in free enterprise with strong intervention for the distribution of the goodies. It is obvious that bankers, corporations and such can not be allowed to just run the world. Humankind is not that generous or fair-minded. If allowed free reign, they would enslave all humanity in the name of profits. Unrestricted, usury credit cards are only one yoke our culture wears.

Jupiter will conjunct Neptune three times this year; May 27th, July 10th & December 21st. That will lead to inflation, confusion and the mistaken belief that everything is wonderful long before it is. As a result, I believe we will see a massive bear market rally this summer, complete with optimism, enthusiasm and glee. But I donÕt believe it is for real. The potential this aspect has for creating illusion and fantasy is so overpowering that it could distract the entire world into some sort of dreamy non-reality. But the other underlying transits are very powerful as well, and not as enlightening. Saturn will conjunct the New York Stock ExchangeÕs Mars in late July, just as the Jupiter – Neptune conjunct completes. This could be a strong pullback in any advancing markets, so keep an eye on any profits that may be on the table.

This Jupiter – Neptune connection will also add a great deal of energy to our collective compassion and the artistic world. Hopefully it will encourage some terrific art to be produced, as well as some innovations in charity and help organizations.

Because Neptune rules infectious diseases, and Jupiter will expand and enlarge anything it comes in contact with, there is some chance that this transit could result in some sort of medical problem involving an infectious agent. Do not ignore even the smallest of cuts or infections, especially if this sets off a personal planet in your chart.

Neptune rules rivers and streams, and we have seen several major rivers expand (Jupiter) beyond their limits. Fargo is besieged and its very existence has been threatened by the expansion of the Red River, which is rising to record levels. We may see more similar activities this summer as that conjunct gets closer.

Saturn will oppose Uranus three more times; September 15th 2009. April 26th 2010, and July 26th 2010. Any of those passes could manifest as another stock crash or other debilitating result. I will discuss each as they approach, as they will display their own unique identity based upon where this aspect falls in the charts of the NY Stock Exchange, America and other nations.

Saturn will square Pluto for the first of three passes on November 15th 2009. This will be a moment of great stress in out society that will demand our attention. It will complete several times over the year. Remember, Saturn was close to the opposition to Pluto when the World Trade Center was hit. This is a very powerful and stressful aspect that will certainly make itself known. I am examining various charts and will present my predictions regarding this transit over the next several months.

Pluto will oppose AmericaÕs Venus and Jupiter for the next several years. It does not complete its final opposition to our Jupiter until November 2011. We have already seen the beginnings of this transit. Pluto rules control and power, and its opposition to Venus has created the new oversights for the banking and trading industries, as well as the collective rage Americans are feeling.

NEW MOON:

The New Moon falls on Thursday March 26th at 12:06 P.M. EST at 6 degrees Aries 08 minutes. This is the first New Moon of the zodiac year and a good time to begin any new project or relationship. That doesnÕt guarantee success for everything you try. There has to be a foundation beneath your fantasies or they will not come to fruition. Aries is the most assertive of all the signs. Use its directness and focus the force it emits where you want it. This is the time to initiate things and to face life with all the guts you can muster. Just remember that Aires is also more likely to jump into a pool and then on the way down look to see if there is any water. Caution is an important part of the equation.

THE SUN CONJUNCTS VENUS:

On Friday March 27th at 3:24 P.M. EST this wonderfully pleasant and creative aspect completes. This is not a disciplined or work-oriented energy so donÕt expect to get a lot done. Enjoy yourself and take in a movie, concert or romantic encounter. And speaking of romance, this can spark a passionate encounter if it sets off one of your personal planets. In general, people will be sociable and less likely to start arguments. Of course a heavy transit to someoneÕs chart will supersede this.

MERCURY CONJUNCT VENUS:

On Saturday March 28th at 10:31 P.M. EST people will not want to argue while this is in orb. ItÕs a good time for a conversation, public presentation or artistic endeavor. If you have a letter to write, (do people write letters anymore? Okay, an email) this is a good time to do so. You will enjoy the process and communicate some nice feelings.

THE SUN CONJUNCTS MERCURY:

On Monday March 30th at 11:30 P.M. EST a kind of willfulness may emanate from those around you. There will be directness and a lot of force behind all communications, so pay attention to how you are speaking. You may be coming across harsher than you realize. This will be a busy day with a lot of communiquˇs, and probably heavy traffic on the roads. Certainly the intellectual highway will be active. We may hear some very important news today. This aspect often coincides with a very active day in the bond markets.

VENUS SQUARES PLUTO:

On Friday April 3rd at 6:27 A.M. EST this transit completes. Because it occurs early in the morning, most of us will be fortunate enough to miss the brunt of its force. But we could feel its effects the night before or later that morning. This square demands that we examine our relationships and uncover what is hidden beneath the surface. It isnÕt usually a pleasant experience when it hits your individual chart, but here it has more to do with the collective, and it may expose some more nastiness about our financial markets.

MERCURY SEXTILES JUPITER:

On Saturday April 4th at 10:59 A.M. EST this optimistic and energetic transit completes. Most people will be in a good mood and feeling sociable. ItÕs a good day for conversations or short journeys. You may learn something important in an offhanded manner.

PLUTO RETROGRADES:

Also on Saturday April 4th at 1:33 P.M. Pluto begins its backward journey. Just as retrograde Mercury will make it difficult to manifest things dealing with communications or travel, the retrograde motion of any planet tends to internalize the energy associated with that planet, and Pluto has much to do with the psychological undercurrent of our culture. While it is retrograde it may be more difficult to express things; however the internal growth this offers can be tremendously useful if you can direct things inward. Once this planet begins to move forwards again you can then communicate the internal changes that have occurred.

MARS OPPOSES SATURN:

Also on Saturday April 4th at 8:55 P.M. EST this very difficult and frustrating aspect completes. There is a lot of stress associated with this opposition. Mars, the ruler of Aries and of the ego, wishes to express itself without restraint or hesitation. But Saturn represses everything it comes in contact with, and this coupling can feel irritating and terse, especially if it hits your chart just right. DonÕt try to accomplish too much, just muddle through until this completes. And try to have a little patience with yourself and others.

MERCURY ENTERS TAURUS:

On Thursday April 9th at 10:22 A.M. EST the planet of thought and communication will enters this slow moving earth sign. People may be more hesitant in their speech and sluggish in their decision making. You may have to prod to get your answers. The value of things will play an important role in your decisions.

FULL MOON:

This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Thursday April 9th at 10:56 A.M. EST at 19 degrees Libra 53 minutes. Libra is interested in relationships and the balance of things. Although this is not a violent sign, the Sun is in Mars rules Aries, and as with all Full Moons you should pay it some respect and not walk into a dangerous situation. Most troubles will occur within relationships, not in dark alleys. Well, you know when someone is murdered the first suspect is almost always the spouse.

THE SUN SEXTILES JUPITER:

On Friday April 10th at 9:43 A.M. EST this wonderfully positive transit completes. The time leading up to this aspect will be optimistic and sociable. If you meet someone the night before or at breakfast you may be pleasantly surprised. Often someone comes along on a Jupiter aspect and they expand your perspective in ways you couldnÕt have even conceived.

MARS CONJUNCT URANUS:

On Wednesday April 15th at 6:01 A.M. EST this explosive energy comes alone. This completes early in the morning, though its effect may linger throughout the day. Those born with this configuration spend a lifetime learning how to control its force. If projected properly, you can get a lot of things done. But it this sets off your chart, or you tend to be a bit volatile, you could have some difficulty today. It may be someone else who is looking to express their anger and you just happen to be there. If you feel angry, do not get behind the wheel of a car.

VENUS GOES DIRECT:

On Friday April 17th at 3:24 P.M. EST this planet begins its direct journey. Issues involving love relationships and money that have been delayed or frustrating should begin to move forward and come to a resolution soon. It will be easier to express your feelings to someone, especially if it is a romantic relationship.

THE SUN ENTERS TAURUS:

On Sunday April 19th at 6:45 P.M. EST we enter the fixed earth sign. Slow and steady is the mantra for this sign, so plan to have some patience. Things may take a little longer but the end result will be solid and sure. This is the sign of fixed earth, and anything built with this energy can last a long time.

VENUS CONJUNCTS MARS:

On Thursday April 21st at 7:19 P.M. EST the planets of male and female meet at the very last minutes of Pisces. Both will enter Aries this week and begin a new cycle in the relationships between men and women. This is an interesting moment when many of us will view our ongoing relationships in a deeper and more compromising way. We are who we are, and these quick moving transits will not change the basic nature of someone. But if you pay attention you may discover something about yourself and how you relate to your potential romantic partners that could help you better understand how to improve them.

MARS ENTERS ARIES:

On Wednesday April 22nd at 9:44 A.M. EST Mars enters the sign of its rulership and begins its journey through the zodiac anew. This is a time to initiate any new projects or to further on ongoing on along. This month in general is one of beginnings and assertiveness. Egos will be very prominent and it will be easy to act in an overly assertive or aggressive way, so try to keep things in perspective.

VENUS ENTERS ARIES:

On Friday April 24th at 3:18 A.M. EST Venus enters this Mars ruled sign and joins that fiery planet. Romances may be a bit aggressive and direct. People will be more assertive, especially women, and you wonÕt have to wonder whatÕs on someoneÕs mind. Try not to act too pushy or you could turn someone off.

DARK OF THE MOON:

The next New Moon falls on Friday April 24th at 11:23 P.M. EST at 5 degrees Taurus 04 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ŅdeadÓ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.

Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.

Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.

The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
