LIVING BY STARLIGHT
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
BY MITCHELL SCOTT LEWIS

MARCH 2006

AUTHOR’S NOTES:

There are several issues that we must examine this month. The deterioration of the Bush administration will continue. The aspects hitting the charts of Bush and America show this. The break down in leadership is beginning to be exposed, and it will take several generations to undo the damage done by this administration, if in fact it can ever be fixed. We are dealing with Saturn in both charts, but in a very different way.

The planet Saturn entered Leo this past July and first crossed Bush’s ascendant in mid-September. In October it crossed his Mercury and Pluto. It then retrograded on November 22nd and once again cross these sensitive points in his chart from mid-December until mid-February. It will cross over again for the third and last time June-July 2006. So, between September 2005 and July 2006 we can say the Bush’s chart is being afflicted by Saturn.

Saturn is the planet of restriction and responsibility. When it crosses so many sensitive parts of a person’s chart we can expect that person to experience a period of delays and frustration. He or she will be called upon to take responsibility for their actions. Often this is a time of personal frustration and failures during which the course taken is reviewed and altered. Relationships will change and those that are not of service to the individual will end. This can be a time of maturity and stabilization, or a time of great stress and defeat. Certainly Bush is feeling this. If he were of stronger character he could turn things around and prove his maturity to the nation. But he isn’t. He is a weak and ineffectual front man for big business and the oil interests. For those of you who read this newsletter regularly you know that I do not believe Mr. Bush will complete his term. How he leaves office is the only question. Nixon left office in disgrace while Saturn was active in his chart.

In America’s chart Saturn is conjunct the North Node in the 8th house of joint partnerships. The 8th house also rules oil. We are about to get a serious black eye on the world stage. We as a collective must learn the same lessons as the individual. Saturn will demand that we at lease recognize the choices we are making. Mars entered Gemini last week and it was immediately followed by an increase in violent protests and explosive political situations. America has Uranus at 8 degrees Gemini 55 minutes. Mars hits that point on March 6th. As Mars approaches that point over the next week we will see more and harsher tactics taken by our enemies, both internal and external. Uranus rules the 3rd house in the chart and besides an increase in vocal attacks it is quite possible with the 3rd house ruling our neighborhood, that we could see violence within our own domain. This could include embassies and military bases in other countries.

On Saturday March 4th Jupiter, the planet of expansion and growth, will retrograde in Scorpio. This is very often the top of the stock market. I have watched this phenomenon for many years, and although no aspect always creates the same response, it is easy to see the hand writing on the wall. Everything that needs room to grow will feel stifled. Plans for the future are often put on hold. It is a time to consolidate your forces and prepare for July when Jupiter once again goes forward. This is also true for the each of us. You may feel some frustration at the slowness of change and expansion. Things will move forward, just at a slow enough pace to prevent over reaching. Remember, there is purpose in everything.

There are several aspects this month that point towards the possibility of a crisis in our financial markets. If that is the case it will be felt across the board in several different areas, not limited to one sector.

NEW MOON:

This month’s New Moon falls on Monday February 27th at 7:31 P.M. EST at 9 degrees Pisces 16 minutes. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, and this is a good time to complete things before the New Year begins on March 20th. If you split the year into the 12 months astrologically by signs and focus your attention on the primary force of that sign, you can better direct your life via the natural flow of things. Pisces is associated with health issues, artistic endeavors, fantasies and the ethereal. It rules the unconscious thought process, psychics and charities. It is also frequently accompanied by confusion or misdirection. This is often a critical time of year when scrutiny and attention to detail become important issues. The problem is that Pisces simply do not by nature pay attention to such things, and because the Full Moon falls in the opposite sign of Virgo, the most detail oriented of the 12 signs, we uncover mistakes and sloppy work after that Full Moon that then must be repaired. Try to focus this month and avoid these problems. Of course, we will be working under retrograde Mercury making that even more difficult. Oh well, you don’t want to be bored now, do you?

Shortly after the New Moon, Uranus will conjunct the Moon setting a frantic pace for this month. Between that and the retrograding Mercury we can expect some real surprises during the next few weeks. The applying aspect closest to completion following a New Moon will often point out the underlying energy of the collective. This could be a very explosive month. Certainly it will be adventurous and memorable. As with all things Uranian the old will not work; we will all be looking for something new.

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

On Tuesday February 28th at 9:39 A.M. EST this little doozy of an aspect completes. People will be feisty and aggressive. At times this can represent an act of violence or verbal aggression. Because Mercury rules automobiles, I would drive defensively for a day or so leading up to this. This aspect, along with several others this month, shows the potential for a financial disaster in our markets. Because of the imminent retrograde action of Mercury we will see this aspect 3 times during the next month or so. I believe this will negatively impact our housing markets and thus the bond prices in some fundamental way.

MARS SEXTILES SATURN:

MERCURY SEXTILES VENUS:

Also on Tuesday February 28th at 1:21 P.M.EST and 5:06 P.M. EST these two aspects come along. They may help smooth over the effects of the Mercury Pluto square mentioned above. But we are heading into a Sun Uranus conjunct the next day, so any assistance will be short lived. Certainly the afternoon will be better, and you should enjoy these pleasant aspects for the few hours they are around. Communications will be lighter and easier. If you have some hard work that must be done, especially mental tasks, I would wait until about noon to tackle the projects. Your energy level will be better and the heaviness of the morning will have subsided.

SUN CONJUNCTS URANUS:

On Wednesday March 1st at 6:02 A.M. EST this potentially explosive aspect completes. Be careful for a day or so leading up to this aspect, and a day or so following as well. This can be a violent and dangerous coupling and should be respected. With Mars conjunct America’s Uranus in a few days we could see violence or an internal power struggle begin. This may very well be the beginning of the end of Bush’s power. The Republican base that he has relied upon for his support is starting to crumble. Any major negative event, such as a terrorist attack happening now would be a major blow to his position. We are quite vulnerable right now.

MERCURY RETROGRADES:

And so the comedy continues. On Thursday March 2nd at 3:29 P.M. EST the little devil turns around. From now until March 25th at 8:42 A.M. EST you must pay heed. Do not sign any important documents unless you have no choice. And then you had better scrutinize those papers with all your attention. Try not to buy a new cell phone, tape recorder, TV, computer, car, boat or plane. Anything that has to do with communications or transportation is prone to breakdowns, losses, theft etc. A new product bought under this aspect will give you trouble. If you have no choice, because your equipment died and you simply must have another, don’t be surprised if it causes you difficulty, especially the next time Mercury retrogrades in about 4 months. This would be a ludicrous time for our nation to sign deals or set precedent as well. Of course, this is exactly when the Bush administration will choose to do just that. The weight of Saturn upon G.W.’s chart is so powerful that he will be placed in positions where he must make important decisions and the confusion and misdirection of the retrograde Mercury will overwhelm him. He’s not very bright.

JUPITER RETROGRADES:

On Saturday March 4th at 1:02 P.M. EST the planet of growth and optimism begins its yearly journey backwards. This aspect more often than not represents the top of the stock market, a vivid example of its deeper meaning. Many of us will look back and recognize this as a period of slowing down and regrouping. Over the next few months we will reexamine projects and ideas that have become stifled and maybe recognize what we could not see while Jupiter was direct. Long journeys require thorough planning and extra care while Jupiter is in retrograde. With Mercury going backwards as well I would use extreme caution and pay attention to detail. Jupiter tends to be a bit sloppy in general anyway, and while it is retrograde we all will tend to miss the trees for the forest.

MERCURY SQUARES PLUTO:

Also on Saturday March 4th at 5:30 P.M. EST this aspect appears for the second of three passes. The rhetoric will be strong and nasty this month. We can expect arguments both public and private as Mercury in Pisces seeks the compassion it requires while battling Pluto, planet of vengeance and hidden agendas. Much is kept secret and some of those secrets will be revealed, as is retrograde Mercury’s habit. When the truth is finally exposed it will be seen in black or white. On the world stage issues, such as the proposed selling of American ports to Dubai, will be seen for what it is; unrestrained greed. By the time this is over many of us will feel that we have been sold out, not only by the Bush administration but by our more liberal leaders who may be bullied into accepting a totally unacceptable situation. Many people will feel cheated and lied to. In our personal lives we must respect this energy and deal with it intelligently. Don’t walk blindly into a fight, especially within a day or two of this aspect. Use care while traveling. Anyone with a chip on their shoulder may very well act out, and they may do so while behind the wheel. Because it is a triple pass, its energy will be felt all month. Be careful.

VENUS ENTER AQUARIUS:

On Sunday March 5th at 3:39 A.M. EST the planet of live and possessions enters this most erratic of signs. Love will be exciting and erratic for the next few weeks. Any relationship born with this aspect has the potential to be adventurous and unusual, but it may not have the stability you need. You must enter any relationship now with your eyes open and, if you accept it for what it is, you may have a great deal of enjoyment. Sometimes we need something different to shake us up. When purchasing anything of great value or redecorating, you should step back and see if it’s really what you want. The unusualness of the item may be what attracts you. But it may not seem so wonderful once Venus leaves this sign.

THE SUN TRINES JUPITER:

On Thursday March 9th at 8:14 A.M. EST this positive and enthusiastic aspect completes. Use this energy to advance any project or relationship that requires growth. This week looks very optimistic until Saturday. If you are planning a social event or important meeting for this month I would try to arrange it between Sunday March 5th and Friday March 10th.

VENUS OPPOSES SATURN:

On Saturday March 11th at 2:32 A.M. EST this difficult aspect occurs. Saturn tends to limit the joy and pleasure that Venus seeks. When they are in opposition it is hard to work things through with others. Often it’s best to just leave things alone until this passes. I wouldn’t plan any social or romantic activities while this is in orb from Friday night until later this day.

MARS SQUARES URANUS:

Also on Saturday March 11th at 11:49 A.M. EST this difficult and potentially violent aspect occurs. This could be a day of protests or military action in the world. On a personal level you should avoid direct conflict unless you are seeking a sudden and explosive interaction. People will be angry and confrontational, so plan accordingly.

THE SUN CONJUNCTS MERCURY:

Also on Saturday March 11th at 9:44 P.M. EST the Sun conjuncts retrograde Mercury. Secrets will be revealed; the truth uncovered. There is a strong willfulness associated with this aspect. Coming on the heels of the two aforementioned aspects, this could be a day of surprises and strong rhetoric. This is a good time to write letters, make important phone calls and get the answers you have been seeking. I just hope you are ready for those answers.

MERCURY TRINES JUPITER:

On Tuesday March 14th at 4:10 P.M. EST this productive and creative aspect occurs. This comes right before the Virgo Full Moon, and sets the pace for that lunar peak. Pay attention to detail and you will be able to get a great deal done. But if you get lost in the big picture and don’t focus your attention where it is needed, you could make some very big mistakes.

FULL MOON:

Also on Tuesday March 14th at 6:35 P.M. EST, the Moon if full at 24 degrees Virgo 15 minutes. Details and focus are the key phrases for this sign. As the last Full Moon of the astrological year, this will bring up issues that require completion. Be careful that you aren’t too critical or picky. We will all scrutinize events and decisions cautiously, and so more secrets will come out. Often the only thing that keeps something a secret is the lack of awareness. Once that consciousness is awakened we see things that were always right before our eyes. But now our eyes see differently. As always I suggest you give this Full Moon its proper respect and avoid dangerous situations.

JUPITER SQUARES NEPTUNE:

On Thursday March 16th at 2:01 A.M. EST this aspect completes. This can be confusion or enlightening; it’s up to how we each use the energy. Certainly there is the potential for overdoing things, especially alcohol and drugs. There is also the potential for misunderstandings and grandiose ideas. But there is also the potential for a deep understanding of your place in life. If this aspect hits a sensitive point in your chart it could open your consciousness to new ways of thinking. Just be sure you are clear about what it going on in your life. This will affect the external world more negatively than the internal.

THE SUN SQUARES PLUTO:

On Friday March 17th at 6:05 A.M. EST another difficult aspect hits. This one should be avoided at all costs. Of course it occurs early in the morning, so my advice is to sleep through it if you can. The night before has this aspect applying, and you should walk carefully. This month has quite a handful of difficult aspects, and you should respect them and act accordingly.

MERCURY SQUARES MARS:

On Saturday March 18th at 8:09 P.M. EST another potentially difficult aspect comes along. This can raise the anger level of you and those around you. Arguments and accidents are common with this aspect. If you feel the need for confrontation you will get your wish today. If you wish to avoid fights you should be willing to back down, even at the cost of your pride. Mars rules the ego, and most conflicts associated with Mars transits are a direct result of ego clashes. Don’t take things so seriously and you will be better able to use these aspects correctly. If you have a great deal of work, especially mental activities, this aspect can go a long way towards accomplishing your goals; as long as you avoid the pitfalls.

THE SUN ENTERS ARIES:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On Monday March 20th at 1:26 P.M. EST the Sun hits zero degrees of Aries and the zodiacal year begins. The spring equinox is the most logical place to celebrate the beginning of the cycle, not January 1st, the date of an old Roman pagan holiday. So, let us begin this year properly with a look ahead. When the Sun enters Aries near the end of the lunar cycle such as today, it indicates that this year we will mostly deal with the completion of things rather than beginnings. But I speak on a larger scale than the immediate. Begin new projects anytime after a New Moon, and especially after this next one in Aries on Wednesday March 29th, but recognize that this is the end of things in our lives as well as in world events. We will see the end of some political careers, treaties, alliances and long held ideals. We will see the deaths of a few prominent people. In each case it will continue to pull the culture to the “right”. This may include another Supreme Court justice, which will finally complete the cycle begun with the passing of Roe v Wade. The struggle in the off-year elections next November will be fierce and, in several cases, contested. It will be an extremely important election – pointing the way to 2008. Because of the lunar placement on this day it may very well represent the end of Bush’s administration; something I have been predicting since it began.

On a personal level we should complete things that were begun many years ago. If you need to begin a ‘new’ project you may find that it is, in fact, a part of a bigger plan you conceived long ago. If you are in the wrong career, marriage, or other direction in life this year may clearly point it out to you. How you choose to respond to that clarity is where the free will comes in. Sometimes we do not end everything just because a cycle has completed. Other times we really have little choice. The world pushes us towards ‘fate’.

THE SUN TRINES SATURN:

Saturday March 25th is quite a busy day. The Sun trines Saturn at 2:04 A.M. EST, which sets the foundation for the rest of the weekend. There should be some sense of structure and responsibility, at least over night. However:

VENUS SQUARES JUPITER:

At 7:09 A.M. EST the two planets most associated with pleasure and overindulgence are in a conflicting aspect to each other. This is not a terrible transit by any means. Actually, it is usually pleasant and friendly; sometimes too much so. The desire to overindulge in all earthly pleasures, such as food, drink, drugs or sex, will be stimulated, but only once the aspect mentioned directly above has passed. An early morning date followed by a large and ludicrous breakfast is the call. But do try not to overdo it. You’ll pay the price on Sunday with a wonderful full-blown hangover. Enjoy.

MERCURY GOES DIRECT:

Also on Saturday March 25th at 8:42 A.M. EST Mercury goes finally goes forward. I am writing this newsletter before the retrograde, so I can only assume what I will be looking back on next month. But I’m sure, based on the other supporting astrological factors I see, that this will be a month of confusion, violence, harsh rhetoric and the exposure of secrets. Keep an eye on yours. Things that have been held up will begin moving forward once again. If you used the retrograde Mercury properly you should understand some of the things that were confusing you before. Now you can implement the knowledge that was given you these past few weeks. Also, it’s safe to buy a new car etc.

VENUS CONJUNCTS NEPTUNE:

On Sunday March 26th at 1:31 A.M. EST if you are still awake any chance you had of remaining sober will quickly slip away. Neptune rules all illusions. Be careful with your heart. You may fall in love with a fantasy only to see it slip away on the Dark of the Moon a few days later. Better to stall the start of a romance until the New Moon anyway. If it can’t wait that long maybe it isn’t the right one. Think of the money you’ll save on tissues.

DARK OF THE MOON:

The next New Moon falls on Wednesday March 29th at 5:15 A.M. EST. The day or so leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, don’t try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just won’t work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you don’t, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this “dead” energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.

Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.

The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.

All times are Eastern Daylight:
